The training as a shipping merchant in the tramp shipping sector  at Sartori & Berger is versatile and varied. You learn shipping on shore side “from scratch” and will get to know different departments during your training. Training fields in Kiel include:

  • Handling of ships at the Kiel Canal
  • Handling of ships in port, liner agency
  • Forwarding / customs clearance
  • Ship’s invoicing

If you are interested in training at our locations in Hamburg, Brunsbuettel or Rostock, please contact the respective branch office directly.

You learn to work independently on your own.  An international environment will be your main field of activity, because our customers and the ship crew, which you will get to know in the port or on the Kiel Canal are mostly from abroad. The English language (English is the world shipping language), an open mind towards other nationalities and the joy as well as willingness to work and learn in the maritime service sector should be brought along.

In addition, we assume that you are willing to provide shift work even during your training – at the beginning of your education you should be at least 18 years of age. Driving license class B is a requirement.

The lessons in the vocational school RBZ Kiel take place in the block. The training lasts 3 years (a shortening to 2.5 years is possible under certain circumstances).
A takeover in our company is possible at vacancy, but in principle we cannot  guarantee this. However, the career prospects after completion of your training are very good. Trained shipping merchants are always needed at home and abroad amongst others in the field of nautical engineering, economics or maritime transport.

Application tips

We are looking forward to your interest in training in our company. Your application allows us to gain a first impression of you. Start of your training in Kiel is always August 1st – your application should be received by us 1 year before the desired training date.
